About California Black Health Network

The California Black Health Network (CBHN) is the oldest and largest organization of African American public health professionals in California. CBHN was organized in 1978 as a collaborative arrangement with the Bay Area Black Consortium for Quality Health Care, the Black Health Leadership Council of Los Angeles, and the San Diego Black Health Associates. In 1982, CBHN was formally incorporated as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. We are now comprised of six local chapters and three affiliate; the Bay Area Black Health Consortium for Quality Health Care; the Black Health Leadership Council of Los Angeles; the San Diego Black Health Associates, the Sacramento Black Health Network, and the Inland Empire African American Health Consortium. A recent addition to the North County African American Health Consortium.

Since 1978 CBHN has provided a forum for individuals and groups concerned with the health status of African Americans (policy makers, consumers and providers) to engage in collaborative analysis, problem solving and program implementation. With offices in San Diego and Sacramento, CBHN is involved with several community-based programs throughout California.

CBHN also convenes an bi-annual statewide African American conference to focus the attention of its constituents and others on the underlying conditions that contribute to the health status gap experienced by communities of color. These bi-annual meetings are designed to examine current data trends review policy and identify successful program that can be replicated throughout California.
